Version 2 of the firmware for the Canon 7D is loose on the world and with it come some long-awaited updates.
Although the Canon USA update page still says “Coming Soon” the update has been available here since yesterday.
Here are a few of the highlights:
The Big Kahuna – Manual Audio
The most anticipated change is manual audio controls. Here they are in all their glory. Also supposedly comes with an audio wind cut filter, but I haven’t had time to check that yet.
Time Zone and Daylight Savings Support
This is a handy feature.
Audio Meters In Video Playback Mode
Along with that are few that don’t show. The ability to edit RAW pictures in the camera, which doesn’t seem like an option I’d use a lot but apparently someone wanted it in there.
The update also promises a faster RAW picture buffer in burst mode, that I will most definitely use, along with the faster scrolling of zoomed images and file name customizations.
All in all, an update that is long overdue in my opinion but at least they got it mostly right.
